Foursquare Fun at East Atlanta Beer Fest

Spring is starting to fade into summer and that means “beer festival season” is upon us!  The East Atlanta Beer Fest is one of the first large festivals of the season and is personally one of my favorites.  Join 4,000 of your Atlanta beer loving friends on Saturday May 21st as you sample from over 170 beers in Brownwood Park next to East Atlanta Village.  One of the great things about this festival is that it is a non-profit organization with proceeds supporting local organizations.

This year 4sqATL has partnered with the festival to integrate some additional unique benefits for Foursquare users.  When you arrive at EABF don’t forget to check in the “2011 East Atlanta Beer Fest” venue.  One of the biggest perks is that three brewers are bringing a special stash of beer that will only be available to attendees who show that they are checked in the festival venue.  Those beers are:

  1. Terrapin Double Feature - Belgian style Dubbel and is the 2nd in the Georgia Theater Sessions set
  2. Heavy Seas Hang Ten - German-style weizen bock
  3. Peak Brewing King Crimson - Imperial red ale

Once the festival venue hits 100 simultaneous check-ins, head over to the EABF merch tent where the first 100 people to show they are checked in the festival venue will receive a free 2011 East Atlanta Beer Fest koozie.  But wait…there’s more!! Upon arrival, the first 100 people to stop by the EABF merch tent and show that they unlocked the 2011 Foursquare Day badge will receive the 4sqATL koozie that was given to all attendees at the Atlanta 4sqDay party in April.  Great way to pick up some 4sqDay schwag if you missed the party!

To my knowledge this is the first beer festival in the country (maybe world) to offer unique beers just for Foursquare users.  Integrating location based apps into the planning process is something I hope that more festivals and events around Atlanta will consider in the future.  A couple of great examples are the Bonnaroo t-shirt giveaway from Sweetwater Brewing Company and the Atlanta Streets Alive festival (4sqATL assisted with the planning of both).
