2011 IPA Day Untappd Badge
Thursday, August 4th, is the first ever International IPA Day where craft brew fans around the world will celebrate the awesome that is the India Pale Ale. Untappd, the leading social drinking community, is helping the world celebrate with a great new limited edition 2011 IPA Day badge. Atlanta’s own SweetWater Brewery has joined the global movement and is one of the 10 host breweries raising a glass in honor of this day. In true SweetWater style, they are throwing a party at the brewery of epic IPA proportions and one you will not want to miss if you love this style of beer.
IPAs will be taking over all of the taps in the SweetWater tasting room at the brewery from 5:30-7:30 pm on August 4th and they have assembled an amazing line-up of rare SweetWater IPA casks for attendees to sample (Facebook Event Listing). The IPA brews flowing that day will be:
- SweetWater IPA
- Big Medlin Double IPA
- Border Hopper – Fresh Hopped IPA
- Wet Dream – Fresh Hopped IPA
- Browneyed Buckeye – Brown Double IPA (Dank Tank series)
- Jack Daniels Barrel Aged SweetWater IPA
- Woodford Reserve Barrel Aged SweetWater IPA
- Jim Beam Barrel Aged SweetWater IPA
- IPA Cask dry hopped with Calypso
- IPA Cask dry hopped with Centennial and Black Pepper
Those beers alone are reason enough to celebrate IPA Day at the brewery, but they are taking it one step further. Everyone who shows their Foursquare check-in when they arrive will receive a free beer koozie. Also, when you pay for your entry ($8 per person) be sure to you show the staff you have checked in on either Untappd, Foursquare, or Facebook Places OR simply sent a Tweet mentioning #IPADay. All attendees who do one of those 4 things when they arrive will be entered into a raffle drawing to win a SweetWater IPA wooden sign!
SweetWater is very active and supportive of the Foursquare community. They run a check-in special for $1 off admission every Wednesday, were a 2011 Atlanta Foursquare Day sponsor, ran a check-in promo during Bonnaroo Music Festival, and hosted a swarm party event at the brewery.
I’m a big fan of Untappd and SweetWater is my favorite brewery so this collision of a limited edition #IPADay badge and an incredible line-up of beers at SWB is badass. I’ll definitely be there and hope to see you all. Turn em up!

UPDATE: Untappd recently released an infographic showing check-in data for IPA Day. Atlanta was the 3rd most popular city in the country and the tap takeover party at the brewery helped make SweetWater the number 2 venue! Love it!!
