Foursquare and American Express Partnership

Foursquare has forged a new partnership with American Express and users who sync their credit card with their 4sq account will be able to earn a credit on their statement when they check-in then make a purchase at select businesses nationwide. 2011 SXSW Festival goers were able to test out the pilot program at local Austin businesses.  The test was so successful that they have rolled it out around the country.

Getting setup and participating in the program is quite easy:

  1. Link your American Express card to your Foursquare account
  2. Visit a participating retailer and select the “Load to Card” button on the specials unlock page
  3. Pay for your purchase with your American Express

Currently, the only retailers where you can redeem these new specials in Atlanta are at H&M and The Sports Authority.  This is a huge step in the right direction for Foursquare as it is a seemless discount for the user and bypasses having to show your phone to an employee who might have no idea what you are talking about.  I am looking forward to seeing further expansion of this program to other merchants both here in Atlanta and around the world.
