Oktoberfest is annual celebration in Germany that officially runs the last sixteen days in September through the first Sunday in October. Last year, Lufthansa airlines created the first Germany exclusive badge when they rolled out the 2010 Lufthansa Oktoberfest Badge. The love of this event stretches outside the borders of Germany and is celebrated all over the world. Foursquare fans of this epic annual party will be excited to learn that the 2011 version of the Oktoberfest badge is available worldwide from Sept 17th to Oct 3rd!
To earn the badge you will need to follow Lufthansa on foursquare and check in at any venue categorized as a German Restaurant, Brewery, or Beer Garden. You can also earn the badge at Oktoberfest festivals and events as long as the word “Oktoberfest” is listed in the name of the venue. Of course, if you are lucky enough to travel to Germany to celebrate you can earn the it at locations where Lufthansa has left Oktoberfest related tips. Folks who unlock the badge will see the following text:
Prost! It’s Oktoberfest time! Party on with a coupon from Lufthansa and sing along with some Bavarian songs from the Gstanzl-Parade.
There are a lot of great ways to celebrate Oktobefest here in metro Atlanta. One of the most popular is to take a trip up to Helen in the North Georgia mountains to party in the Bavarian style town. If you can’t make it to Helen you can head over to the terrific downtown German restaurant Der Beirgarten. I will be earning my Oktoberfest badge at a tweetup at Der Biergarten hosted by @ATL_Events and @AleSharpton. The party is Friday, September 30th from 6-8pm complete with giveaways, free appetizers, music, and more. For more details please visit the ATL Events blog. I look forward to seeing y’all at the tweetup and drinking a Das Boot with you!
