While the weather outside right now in Atlanta is certainly cold enough to ski in, the lack of a mountain or snow pretty much prohibits our fine city from becoming a ski destination. So why am I sharing a post about the new Foursquare Ski Bum badge? Because folks do actually leave Atlanta on occasion and we do have several ski options within driving distance. I’m also sharing it because technically you could earn it here in Atlanta thanks to the fake snow hill at Stone Mountain Park called Snow Mountain (venue page).
Next time you hit the slopes be sure to carry your cell phone with you so you can check in to unlock this great new badge. The unlock text reads:
Looks like someone’s been slaying the pow! Say, is it 1988 in here, or did someone just throw a sick Double Daffy!?
Your best bet for skiing close to Atlanta is going to be in North Carolina at Sugar, Beech, or Hawks Nest. The last time I checked the runs that used to be in North Georgia at Sky Valley were closed. If anyone has details on if whether or not it will open this year please share them in the comments. Need some instructional advice on how to ski? I think this quote from the movie Better Off Dead pretty much covers it: “Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn.”
