2013 Groundhog Day Badge from visitPA

For the 3rd year in a row, visitPA will celebrate Groundhog Day with a one-day limited edition Foursquare badge (2011 & 2012 versions). Pennsylvania is home to the world famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. VisitPA has had a longstanding partnership with Foursquare and is an excellent example of how a state tourism board can use the platform to help users explore their state. Like previous badges, you do not need to travel to PA on Groundhog Day to earn the badge. Simply follow visitPA on Foursquare and use the word “groundhog” in a shout during any check-in on February 2nd. Users who unlock the badge will see the following text:

If Punxsutawney Phil could thank you for checking in with PA this Groundhog Day, he surely would. Alas, he is tied up with his annual prognosticating responsibilities. Go to visitPA.com to see if he caught a glimpse of that infamous shadow.

Pennsylvania isn’t home to the only weather predicting groundhog. You can visit with the Southeast version of Punx Phil named General Beauregard Lee at the Yellow River Game ranch in Lilburn, GA. The game ranch is open year round, spanning over 24 acres and home to over 600 birds and animals.

Of all the partner badges, the Groundhog Day badge from visitPA is by far the cutest. We’ve been fortunate so far this year in Atlanta with warmer than usual winter temps. Hopefully, General Lee and Punx Phil will give us some good news on Feb 2nd so that we can move on quickly into spring.
