2013 Atlanta 4sqDay Recap

2013 4sqday badgeA lot has changed over the years since the original 4sqDay party was held back in 2010 with the exception of one thing, the awesome community we have here in Atlanta. Sure the number of Foursquare users have grown over that time and the size of the annual 4sqDay party has changed, but the spirit of the Atlanta tech and social community has not.

Thanks to the support of Kwanza Hall, the Atlanta City Council again proclaimed April 16th as Foursquare Day. The 2013 proclamation is now hanging in the San Francisco Foursquare office with the 2012 document on display in New York. For the 4th year, several Atlanta businesses offered one day specials to celebrate and reward Foursquare users – what the day is all about. Also in its 4th year was the annual 4sqDay party, which no Foursquare Day could be complete without.

This year, approximately 100 users gathered at the 5 Seasons Brewing Co. in West Midtown to celebrate the day. Thanks to the generous support of the Atlanta Foursquare Day sponsors, we gave away custom 2013 Atlanta 4sqDay t-shirts and koozies. Their support also provided for music from a terrific local band “Secondhand Swagger“. This was my first time seeing them live and I could not have been more impressed. If you missed the event, definitely check them out around town as you will not be disappointed. Foursquare provided collapsable water bottles for all of the attendees as well. From great giveaways and music to terrific conversations, the 2013 Atlanta 4sqDay party was another fun evening to remember.

Thanks to the generous support of the attendees, we were able to use the gathering as a way to help a wonderful local charity: Atlanta Community Food Bank. Party goers donated several hundred dollars and boxes of food to help their efforts in eradicating hunger in our city. I can’t thank the attendees enough for their generosity.

I appreciate the volunteers who assisted with the event, everyone who made it out to the party, local businesses who offered specials, and the event sponsors for another memorable Foursquare Day here in Atlanta. I look forward to seeing y’all again soon. Happy exploring Atlanta!
