The 2011 Atlanta Foursquare Day Party at the W Hotel downtown is rapidly approaching and folks around town are getting excited to celebrate the global social media holiday. As the big event draws closer I thought it worthwhile to call attention to the non-profit component for the festivities. The two charities for Atlanta Foursquare Day are the Atlanta Humane Society & Atlanta Community Food Bank and there are three different ways you can help:
- Atlanta Humane Society – Make a pledge to donate money to AHS based on the number of check-ins to the Atlanta Foursquare Day party venue. How it works is quite simple: visit the AHS site and let them know how much money you would like to pledge per check-in (capped at a max of 250 check-ins). After the event you will receive an email from them with your donation total and a link to complete your pledge. For example, if you pledged 10 cents per check-in and we hit the 250 maximum your pledge total would be $25. This is a wonderful way to contribute to the Foursquare Day fundraising even if you can not make it to the party.
- Atlanta Community Food Bank – Guests at the party are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the ACFB. There will be food collection bins located near the entry of the event making it very easy for attendees to drop off their items upon arrival. Please visit the ACFB site to see a list of their most needed food items.
- Raffle Giveaway – There are two identical “Foursquare Swag” gift bags full of cool merchandise that will be raffled off. Each bag will include 2 official 4sqDay t-shirts, a 4sqATL t-shirt, 4sqATL koozies, and a collection of Foursquare badge buttons and badge stickers! Tickets will be available at the check-in table and can be purchased in increments of 1 for $5, 3 for $10, and 8 for $20. The drawing will be held at approx 8pm and you must be present to win. All of the proceeds from the raffle sales will be split between AHS and ACFB.
A few of the raffle items.
Both of the organizations will be at the party for you to learn more about their upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. The Foursquare application and entry to the party are both free so let’s use this coming together as a community to do some good for two Atlanta organizations. Making a donation to the Atlanta Humane Society and the Atlanta Community Food Bank is a small price to pay for the year round awesomeness that we enjoy on Foursquare.
Happy Foursquare Day yall and I look forward to checking in around Atlanta with you.
